Introduction
FIV allows you to view a wide range of image files on your Android mobile device. It is designed to load images quickly and efficiently even on less powerful devices. It can be used by opening a view "intent" from another application or through its built-in file explorer.

Working with FIV
If you launch FIV from another application (e.g. opening an attachment in GMail), you will go directly to the main viewer window. From here, pressing back will go to the file explorer by default or the recently viewed files list depending on the settings. You can also click on the menu button to open other files or choose other options. If you start FIV from it's icon, it will open the file explorer or recently viewed list. The following are the three main areas of FIV:

Recently Viewed Files
This list displays the names of files recently viewed sorted in the order of most recent to least. When an image is opened from another application (e.g. GMail), it may not come from a file because it was sent as a stream. This will display in the list as "latest_attachment". The list can be cleared from the menu. Press the browse button to go to the file explorer.

Main Viewer
When an image opens in the main viewer, it will be scaled to fit entirely in the window. When at this scale, the following gestures are available:

Standard pinch-zoom gestures allow you to change the current zoom level from fully zoomed out (fit-to-window) up to 800%. When a finger is on the display and the image is not at fit-to-window zoom, a small square in the upper right corner indicates the relative position and size of the window on the document as well as indicates the current page and total pages if there are more than one. To change the view or manipulate the current image (e.g rotate), the following functions are available from the change view menu item:

File Explorer
FIV includes a custom file explorer which allows you to browse the entire Android file system. There are five different views that can be chosen from the settings window:

In all views, the current directory is displayed at the top of the window. The first item in the list is a directory named ".." which, when selected, will navigate to the parent directory. Long pressing on a filename will display the following list of options:

FAQ
Q: Why does FIV display some PDF files incorrectly or not open them?
A: FIV does not implement a complete PDF viewer and can only view PDF files containing scanned images, not text or vector graphics.

Q: Why doesn't FIV open my email attachment automatically?
A: Android doesn't integrate 3rd party apps into the OS; the user needs to select "share" or "open" in order for 3rd party apps to be used with the file.

Q: A supported image file is not displayed correctly; what can I do?
A: Please send any images which don't display correctly to tdfsoftware@gmail.com and we will correct the problem as quickly as possible.

Q: Can I change the look of file explorer?
A: In the Settings page you can specify how the file explorer looks including a grid view, and the size of the thumbnail images.

Q: How can I stop Android from asking me to choose FIV each time I open an image?
A: If there is more than one application registered to open images, Android will display the applications in a list and ask you to choose. To set FIV as the default choice, check the box under the list to set it as the default action.

Q: Why is FIV force closing when I browse a folder with many files in it?
A: The file explorer caches the thumbnail images in RAM. For phones with little free memory, Android will try to close other apps and services.  This can cause the phone to behave badly or the program to close. Try using a details-only view (no thumbnails) to reduce memory usage.
