Handwriting Input for Android
WritePad is a Handwriting Recognition Input Method for Android OS which replaces the on-screen keyboard with PhatWare's proven multilingual handwriting recognition technology and can be used for text input in any Android application.
Once WritePad is selected as the default input method on your Android device, it will appear instead of the soft keyboard any time text editing is needed. The following tips will help you to get familiar with WritePad quickly.
- To enter text, write legibly on the input panel between the lines in your
preferred handwriting style. You can write one or more words per recognition session, but always complete the entire
word in each session
and ignore intermediate results
because the dictionary is used to find the best results.
Depending on the selected handwriting recognition mode, the recognized text can be entered automatically after a short timeout (Recognition Timeout)
or when you start writing a new word on the left side of the red marker (Continuous Writing). If both options are off, the text is inserted at the current cursor location manually
either by touching the desired recognition result or touch the
button.
While you write, multiple recognition results arranged in order of the highest likelihood are presented to you.
The first result is inserted by default, however if it is not the desired one, tap on the correct alternative to use it instead.
-
If you always print, you may want to enable the Separate Letters option. Touch the
button to toggle between
and
recognition modes.
-
If the Input Panel contains handwriting, the
button inserts the recognized text at the current cursor location, otherwise
it
inserts the return character. You can also use the
gesture.
- If the Input Panel contains handwriting, the
button deletes the last stroke, otherwise it deletes
the character to the left of the cursor. You can also use the long
gesture.
- If the Input Panel contains handwriting, the
button clears the input panel and cancels the recognition session, otherwise
it
inserts the space character.
- The
button inserts the period at the current cursor location.
- If the recognizer returned an unexpected result, touch the incorrectly recognized word in the recognition
results window to
view alternatives.
- To use the built-in calculator, write something like 23.4+11.3=.
The = symbol at the end of the equation is required to
invoke the calculator.
- To access WritePad Settings touch the
button. WritePad Setting window allows you to adjust recognition settings; ink, guidelines and background
colors; and edit user dictionary
and Autocorrector word lists.
- WritePad also includes the keyboard with the aoutocomplete feature.
You may need to use keyboard to enter hard-to-write punctuation
characters and special symbols. Touch the
button to switch to the keyboard view. To switch back to the handwriting panel view, touch the
button on the keyboard.
-
